Contexture HIE:
Patient Rights and Consent
Understand your participation in health information exchange
A health information exchange (HIE) allows your healthcare team to securely access your records no matter where you seek treatment. By participating in the HIE, your doctor will be able to provide better care through more informed decisions, especially in emergency situations.
What We Do
Contexture operates the HIE that serves Arizona and Colorado. Our HIE enables participating healthcare providers to securely share and access up-to-date patient information, improving care quality, safety, and efficiency.
Faster Access
to Care
In an emergency, healthcare providers can quickly access your important health records, including allergies, medications, and conditions.
- Reduces delays in treatment
- Improves your care by giving your healthcare team access to your records
- Helps healthcare providers make faster decisions
- Improves the accuracy and completeness of a patient’s medical history
Avoid Duplicate
Tests
The HIE can reduce healthcare costs by eliminating unnecessary duplication of tests and procedures.
If your doctor can access a recent blood test, a new test isn’t needed, and you can avoid any associated hassle, discomfort, and out-of-pocket costs.
- Helps you save time and money
- Ensures your health information follows you to new care settings
Quicker
Test Results
The HIE provides your doctors with faster access to blood tests, X-rays, MRIs, and other medical tests.
Without the HIE, your care could be delayed if your doctor needs to contact other facilities to request copies of your test results.
- Speeds up diagnosis and treatment
- No need to call offices to request copies of your records
It’s Your Choice
The Contexture HIE offers many benefits to patients, but your participation is entirely voluntary. You have the right to choose whether your health information is included.
If your healthcare providers participate in the HIE, they are required to inform you of their participation. This HIE participation notice is often shared alongside a notification about the provider’s HIPAA privacy practices during your visit.
