Participation in HIE Enhances Patient Care for Colorado Residents
DENVER, Colo. – June 4, 2020 – CORHIO, the Colorado Regional Health Information Organization, announced today that Denver Health has successfully connected to its health information exchange (HIE) network. As Colorado’s primary safety-net institution, Denver Health treats 33% of Denver’s population annually, seeing nearly 930,000 total patient visits annually.
The connection of Denver Health’s EPIC electronic medical record system with CORHIO’s HIE greatly expands its capabilities to quickly and efficiently coordinate patient care with community providers throughout Colorado. When a patient is hospitalized or has a medical test performed at the Denver Health hospital, important health information is electronically recorded and automatically available to the patient’s care providers on the CORHIO network, including laboratory results (including COVID-19), radiology results and images, transcription notes and vital information from admission and discharge.
This immediate communication helps the patient’s care team better track his or her medical needs, which can prevent repeat hospitalizations and redundant testing.
“Denver Health’s vital role in the community as a safety-net provider and major care provider for Colorado residents makes this a very important partnership for CORHIO,” says Morgan Honea, CORHIO CEO. “We are thrilled to include these important clinical data in the HIE, especially during this pandemic when transparency and good communication is so important.”
“Denver Health is excited to be a part of the CORHIO network. Their vast health information system will eventually allow our patients to connect with the resources that they need,” says Wade Ebersole, Chief Administrative Officer, Denver Health Medical Center. “A core tenet of our mission is to achieve the best outcomes for our patients and we are confident that this partnership advances that priority.”
