First, Denova now conducts 90% of its behavioral health visits through their signature Virtual Care Program, allowing patients to schedule same day or next day appointments. This program crushes the average wait period for behavioral health services by 94%. In addition, they have found that virtual appointments are not only convenient for patients, but for the workforce as well. Patients who prefer an in-person experience can still schedule with providers at any of Denova’s 8 locations across Arizona.

Second, Denova uses Contexture’s health information exchange which provides access to their patients’ comprehensive medical and behavioral healthcare records. Denova’s chart preparation time has been significantly reduced since records are now in one source, and manual faxing for medical records isn’t required as often. This directly supports the Same Day, Next Day program since patients don’t have to wait for their records to be transferred to schedule appointments.

The comprehensive view of patient records allows Denova to deliver on their promise of collaborative, whole person health care. For instance, if a patient is coming in for behavioral health support, the provider is also able to see their Type 2 Diabetes records including A1C scores and information about recent hospitalization for high blood sugar. The provider can ask about this and encourage the patient to schedule needed care. This will ensure any necessary labs including A1C are collected, and a custom care plan is developed and followed, reducing the chance of rehospitalization.

Finally, through real-time hospital notifications from Contexture, the Denova team is informed when their patients are admitted into the hospital. If a patient is hospitalized, whether for a physical health or behavioral health condition, Contexture notifies Denova of the admission and the discharge. This triggers the patients’ provider to reach out to schedule needed follow up care right away.

Denova is also able to see the patient’s hospital records, including any labs or test results. “Our team has total focus on our patient care, and with instant diagnostic, laboratory, and radiology report notifications from Contexture, we’re not bothering our patient, their family or the hospital discharge planners to get information on their admission,” shared Angie Roumain, Vice President of Medical Operations at Denova. “This ensures a seamless transition that saves both time and resources by eliminating redundant labs and tests.”
