DENVER, Colo. – April 8, 2014 – CORHIO, the Colorado Regional Health Information Organization, announced today that Morgan Honea was selected by the board of directors to be its Executive Director. Honea, who is currently the Chief Executive Officer of Plains Medical Center, will assume the executive leadership role with CORHIO on May 1, 2014.
Honea has held the CEO position at Plains Medical Center, a Federally Qualified Health Center with four locations in eastern Colorado, for nearly four years. Honea recently helped lead the negotiations for Plains Medical Center’s merger with Peak Vista Community Health Centers, a Federally Qualified Health Center in the Colorado Springs area.
Honea began his career in public health in Missouri, where he received his Master’s degree in Health Administration from Missouri State University. He moved to Colorado in February of 2010. Through his various leadership roles, Honea has been an advocate for the underserved as well as enhancing integration of oral and behavioral health with physical health services and using more efficient, effective health information technology.
Honea serves on the board of directors of both the Colorado Community Health Network and the Colorado Community Managed Care Network.
“The board of directors is excited about Morgan joining the outstanding management team and staff at CORHIO,” said CORHIO Board Chair Gerry Lewis-Jenkins, executive vice president of COPIC Companies. “We believe that Morgan will pick up the leadership baton and continue to move CORHIO forward in a positive direction. Morgan brings to CORHIO a rural provider perspective, which is an essential part of CORHIO’s continued success.”
“Coloradans should be proud of the work that has been done by its health care leaders to improve the health of our communities and to increase efficiencies across the entire health care system,” said Honea. “CORHIO represents one of the most exciting opportunities to continue to improve and support local health care. Building on the phenomenal work that has already been done at CORHIO, we will work to ensure that Colorado continues to be a national leader in health care innovation, collaboration and overall health.”
“Morgan is a great addition to CORHIO’s talented and committed staff,” said Kelly Joines, CORHIO’s interim chief executive officer and vice president of HIE program operations. “He has been involved with CORHIO for several years now through our statewide HIE policy committee, which will be invaluable experience as he takes the helm of one of the most successful HIEs in the country.”
