Contexture and Hawaiʻi Health Information Exchange (HHIE) have signed a Letter of Intent to affiliate, which once finalized, will bring together two trusted organizations with a shared commitment to advancing health information exchange, interoperability, and community health. The affiliation is expected to be completed in fall 2026 and reflects a long-standing alignment between the two organizations, which have worked together on industry initiatives, Medicaid alignment, and collaborative efforts to improve the exchange and use of health information.
As healthcare organizations across the country face increasing technology, infrastructure, and operational demands, both Contexture and HHIE recognize the importance of building sustainable, scalable solutions that can continue to meet the needs of providers, patients, public agencies, and communities. Through this affiliation, HHIE will gain access to Contexture’s technology expertise, operational scale, and experience supporting Medicaid programs, public health initiatives, and data modernization efforts, while preserving HHIE’s deep understanding of Hawaiʻi’s healthcare landscape and longstanding relationships across the state.
This next chapter builds on the strengths of both organizations. HHIE has served as Hawaiʻi’s state-designated nonprofit health information exchange since 2006, helping healthcare providers securely access and share health information to improve care and outcomes throughout the state. Together, the organizations will be better positioned to strengthen interoperability, enhance care coordination, support public health priorities, and continue advancing the role of health information exchange as critical healthcare infrastructure.
For Contexture participants, partners, and stakeholders, Contexture services will continue operating as usual, with no interruptions to service and no changes to access, workflows, or support channels. Participants will continue to have access to the tools, data, and services they rely on every day, and patient information will remain protected under existing privacy, security, and regulatory requirements.
For HHIE participants, the affiliation will provide a path toward modernization of Hawaiʻi’s health information exchange infrastructure through future migration to Contexture’s technology platform. This work will occur over time and will be carefully planned and communicated. HHIE participants will continue using their existing services throughout the transition, and both organizations are committed to ensuring continuity of operations while providing regular updates as plans develop.
